THE very best bunch of Burnham and Highbridge residents have the chance to be nominated for the town’s Civic Awards this year.

The annual award ceremony aims to recognise the tireless work people in Burnham and Highbridge do in their community.

Nominations are now being accepted and must be submitted in writing by midday on Monday, March 16, to Lorna Brewer at the town council.

All nominations should include the full name and address of the nominee and details of their involvement with community groups and the community in general.

They should be posted to: Mrs Lorna Brewer, Admin Assistant, The Old Courthouse, Jaycroft Road, Burnham- on-Sea TA8 1LE.

Alternatively you can email your nomination to lorna@burnhamhighbridge.org or call 01278- 788088.

The town council will consider nominations for the 2015 awards at their meeting on the April 1.

Town Clerk Denise Emery said: “These awards are given to people deemed to have rendered outstanding service to the community and will be presented at the Annual Civic Service later this year.

“Members of the public are invited to submit nominations in writing, as soon as possible.”

Last year Glastonbury Festival boss Michael Eavis presented Civic Awards to Sara and Mark Cox-Conklin, and Tony and Sue Merrett.

Sara and Mark bravely took on Burnham Swimming Pool when Sedgemoor District Council was looking to close it.

Their efforts have resulted in the Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, which has gone from strength to strength.

Tony and Sue Merrett were nominated after they transformed an old warehouse into the thriving Monarchs Acrobatic Gymnastics Club.

They have given their time and expertise over the last 15 years to help train youngsters of all ages. The Civic Awards presentation is set to take place later this year.
