CARE staff and volunteers from across Sedgemoor have been trained to deliver a chair-based activity known as ‘Flexercise’.

The council’s health promotion officer Lianne Clarke has trained 17 volunteer and care and residential home staff at a free workshop.

The activity is designed to help maintain and/or enhance the health and wellbeing of the predominantly older people who take part.

A further six people have successfully completed training as health walks leaders.

Lianne Clarke said: “Walks are led by friendly, knowledgeable volunteers who are specially trained for the role.

“Along with fellow walkers, walk leaders provide all the advice and encouragement a new walker needs to build fitness at a pace that’s right for them.

“In just a short time, a small amount of regular exercise can significantly improve a person’s health, well-being and confidence.”
