VOLUNTEERS from a Burnham animal rescue centre were called out on a cold night last week to rescue a Soay lamb that had fallen from a high ledge in Cheddar Gorge.

The tiny lamb was left bleating for its mother and unable to reach her, so the distressed baby was taken to Secret World Wildlife Rescue for treatment and food.

The following day volunteers took the lamb, nicknamed ‘Daffy’, to try and reunite the mother and baby but she couldn’t be found.

Daffy is now being cared for by animal carer and surrogate mum Josie Nott.

Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News:

Josie said: “Daffy is being bottle-fed every four hours and she is being treated for a wound which we believe occurred when she fell from the cliff.”

The centre is getting ready for the busy season which is expected to bring many orphans in need of care and veterinary help.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue will open its doors for the first time this year for the Easter Weekend and visitors may catch a glimpse of Daffy enjoying one of her many bottle feeds.

You can follow the lamb’s progress on the centre’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
