A SUPPORT group that was set up in memory of a Burnham teenager has been given official charity status.

In Charley’s Memory was founded in September by Jo Clement after her 18- year-old son, Charley, died.

The group aims to raise awareness of mental health issues in young adults and to offer support to young people and their families affected.

Jo said: “This is such a big deal to us as it now means we are a recognised charity that can apply for grants and funding to help us reach our big goal of opening Charley’s Haven – a place where young adults from 16 to 25 can stay to receive the help that they need to live with their mental health issues.

“It will also offer support to their families as there is nothing like this in our immediate area.”

The charity’s next event will be a ball held on Weston Pier on Friday, April 3, from 7.30pm.

Tickets are £30 and include a threecourse meal and entertainment with all money going to In Charley’s Memory.
