A SOMERSET organisation which supports people across the county in emergency crises has been awarded almost £5000,000 by the Big Lottery Fund.
The Community Council for Somerset provides a support service to a rural population - typically for housing, transport, benefits and safety.
It has now received £499,993 to increase the scope of support to include severe weather emergency.
The number of Village Agents will be increased from 13 to 30 to cover all rural parishes in Somerset and their level of training increased to cope with their expanded role.
Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund deputy director, England, said: “This funding will help to unlock abilities and skills to improve the lives of local people.”
