BURNHAM Jetty North beach is at risk of failing to meet European Union water quality standards.
It is among 25 English beaches that could possibly be classed as "poor", the Environment Agency warns.
Other West Country beaches in the list include Henleaze Lake, in Bristol, Ilfracombe Wildersmouth, Instow and Budleigh Salterton, in Devon, and Lyme Regis Cliff Beach, in West Dorset.
Environment Agency staff will take weekly water samples at 400 locations across England until September.
Results will be available on a new website.
At the end of the summer, sites will have to display signs at all bathing areas indicating whether the standards have been met and if the water is fit for swimming.
The EA says it is now tougher than ever to meet EU quality standards and that most of the pollution is caused by sewage and from agriculture, while local issues include dog and seagull mess, misconnected drains or fats poured down drains.
