NEW “trial” traffic management signs have been put up in Burnham this week to give motorists forewarning of road closures due to upcoming events in the town.

The signs designed by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council in conjunction with Somerset County Council Highways have been positioned around the town on main roads ahead of this weekend’s Burnham Food Festival.

Town Centre Manager Beverley Milner Simonds said: “Highways suggested to the town council that we should be more proactive in traffic management for large events that involve closing roads and they helped us design the signs in accordance with traffic regulations.”

The number of events held in Burnham is steadily increasing and Bev said that if the trial was a success then the signs could become a permanent fixture.

She said: “We will monitor the feedback on the effectiveness of these signs before deciding if they will be deployed in 2016.

“We have pre-ordered the stickers for Folk Fest, the Lights Switch-on, Carnival and the two Food & Drink Festivals and can add to this if more road closure applications for events are approved.”
