FORMER Wells MP Tessa Munt has welcomed the news that a court will hear evidence that Lord Jenner sexually abused a number of boys during his time as an MP.

Ms Munt campaigned for Lord Jenner to come before a court to answer the historic allegations of child abuse after the Director of Public Prosecutions deemed him unfit to stand trial due to advanced dementia.

Speaking of the decision to open the case against Lord Jenner at a magistrates’ court, she said: “This is a victory for the alleged victims.

“The Crown Prosecution Service and the DPP are the gatekeepers to getting justice.”

Ms Munt added: “Alison Saunders was creating a barrier to something that should have been dealt with appropriately by a judge and she should consider her position.”
