BURNHAM’S beach is set to be packed with traditional sword fighters as the jousting on the beach tournament returns for its third year.

Beginning at 1pm on Sunday 19 July, a parade of people in fancy dress, led by the king and his knights, will head towards the pavilion.

A choreographed jousting display and competition will take place, with pupils from the King Alfred School in Highbridge fighting the king.

The steps of the pavilion will be packed with stalls and spectators, all watching over 50 people in costume in the auditorium style ring, with the queen awarding the chalice to the winner.

All funds raised on the day will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support.

Event organiser Gaynor Brown said: “The day will be enjoyable for all the family.

“We’ve got jousters coming from all over the place, with even more stalls and the parade will begin at the community centre and finish at the beach.

“We still have room for more knights and swordsman if anyone wants to join.”
