RISK-TAKING residents are being warned not to swim in the Apex Park lake.

Sedgemoor District Council has made the warning after reports of people swimming in the lake and misusing safety equipment in the park.

Swimming is prohibited in the lake at all times as it has little easy access in/out, has unknown depth and slippery surfaces, is a haven for wildlife and marine plants including many plants where feet can easily get tangled as well as the lake being a former clay pit and thus inappropriate in terms of swimming water quality.

Safety aids are also for emergency-use only and should not be used/touched unless it is an emergency.

Whilst safety equipment is regularly checked by Sedgemoor District Council staff, non-emergency use increases the risk of safety equipment being unavailable/damaged when an emergency takes place.

Anyone who spots safety equipment missing or damaged should call the Council urgently on 01278-435435.
