IT was a night of fundraising and excitement at the launch part of the Ritz Cinema's third screen.

Pat and Beryl Scott welcomed the arrival of the £165,000 project, which took over two years to complete.

The screen seats 72 people in brand new surroundings.

To celebrate the launch, 70 invited guests were treated to a preview of the latest Tom Hanks film, Bridge of Spies on condition that access was free, but they would have to donate to Burnham’s RNLI to leave.

The film was also donated by Century Fox, almost two weeks before it’s official release date.

Official opening of the screen was marked by a ribbon cutting from Burnham and Highbridge Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke.

BurnhamRNLI Chairman Ashley Edwards gave a speech the local lifeboat station, it’s history, and the fundraising project which will enable the purchase of a new D class lifeboat replacement for Puffin next year.

RNLI buckets were passed around at the end of the film and guests were treated to a buffet.

The end of the evening was marked by the presentation of a dummy cheque for £637, representing the total collected funds, plus proceeds of a raffle.

Mayor Michael Clarke said: "This is a fantastic addition to a great attraction in Burnham."

RNLI Chairman Ashley Edwards said: "We are all very grateful for the donations, which will go towards our new D class lifeboat replacement next year."
