THE people of Highbridge are celebrating after a new community hub was launched on Monday 16 November.

The building, which replaces the old Police Pod, will be in Asda Car Park, Caxton Road.

The Highbridge Beat Team hope that it will be used not only by the police but also by community groups and partner agencies as a meeting place.

PCSOs Sam Piers and Pete Williams worked to secure funding to implement the idea, which came from Somerset County Council’s Troubled Families Project along with financial support from Asda for the running cost of the building.

PCSO Piers said: “We are delighted to be opening the new Hub.

"It’s in a brilliant location and a lovely new building which can seat about 15 people.

"We want it to be used by the communities of Highbridge and the surrounding areas, so please do get in touch with us if you want to book it.

"The police will be continuing to use the facility and we will put the dates and times of when we are holding Beat Surgeries, and other events, on our website so please visit our beat pages.

"I would like to extend our thanks to Asda for their continued support, Portacabin for their donation towards the building, Somerset County Council and Sedgemoor District Council for their donation and to Bespoke Manufacturing of Highbridge for the art work supplied.

"We are really grateful to them all."
