Homes in Sedgemoor are taking too long to make repairs to the homes of Highbridge residents and are allowing properties to decline in value due to their negligence claimed a resident.

Noreen Nicholson who lives in the town said she had requested the housing authority to repair doors and windows in her flat at Stiling Close but found the organisation don’t live up to their promises.

On the wall in the stairwell of the complex the company state their standards which according to Mrs Nicholson they don’t adhere to.

She said: “They agreed to repair the back door in August saying they would do is as a priority job within 28 days. That was supposed to be in September. It is now November. The front door needs to be repaired and repainted and despite my complaints nothing gets done. I don’t blame the workmen I blame those in charge at Homes In Sedgemoor.”

But what makes Mrs Nicholson even more frustrated is the housing group’s plans to spend thousands of pounds on a free Christmas party for their tenants that includes free transport to Bridgwater.

“I bought my flat under the Right to Buy scheme in the 1980s,” she said, “I pay maintenance charges but I have not been fairly treated. If I sell my flat then these things will make the home lose value. Homes in Sedgemoor should live up to their promises and maintain the flats properly.”

In reply a spokesperson for Homes in Sedgemoor said: “A leaseholder reported repairs required to their property’s windows in February 2015. The repairs contractor attended on the 6th of March 2015 and overhauled three windows and replaced handles to these windows; no further repairs have been reported since that date.

“With regards to a shed door; the door and frame were renewed on the 11th of November 2015, there is still some decoration work required and the repairs contractor is aware of this. However, due to the recent weather the painting has not been done, but will be completed as soon as is reasonably practicable.

“The communal doors have been surveyed and Homes in Sedgemoor are awaiting quotes from specialist contractors prior to works commencing on site. As they form part of large programmed works they will be completed before April 2016.”

Homes in Sedgemoor was been appointed by Sedgemoor District Council to manage its homes as an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO). It is owned by the Sedgemoor and operates as a non-profit company.
