IT was a cause for celebration, as both schools in the Huntspill Federation were rated Good by Ofsted.

Back in February, both West and East Huntspill Primary schools were inspected, with the reports being released on March 10.

The result graded the schools good in all five categories of effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, outcomes for pupils and early years provision.

Head teacher, James Peate, was praised in the report.

It reads: "The headteacher provides inspirational leadership.

An ethos of respect and aspiration permeates all of the school’s work.

"As a result, the school has improved significantly since the previous inspection.

"Leaders have taken decisive and effective action to improve attendance, which is now in line with the national average.

"Teachers have adopted the head teacher’s passion for progress.

"They provide very good guidance for pupils to improve their work."

The Ofsted report for West Huntspill specifically states that parents view their children as happy, achieving, and well-cared-for by the school.

At East Huntspill, it was reported that the head teacher, governors and staff have been successful in creating a purposeful learning environment, resulting in good teaching and better progress for pupils.

In order to improve, Ofsted state that the schools should strengthen teaching to improve pupils’ achievement.

This can by done by "challenging and extending pupils’ thinking to the full and ensuring that teachers have consistently high expectations for children’s writing in the early years."

The federation can also strengthen the leadership and management of the school by making sure that "governors systematically check the work of the school for themselves to enable them to hold leaders to account with greater effect."

A spokesperson for the Huntspill Federation said: "Both schools have small mixed classes and all the staff know the names of all children, their siblings and parents so it is a real community school.

"Receiving a Good judgement is one of which we should all- whether children, parents, carers, all staff and the leadership team- be proud of.

"It is a a valuable milestone in the continuing development towards the Huntspill Federation becoming an Outstanding school in the future."
