A SPECIAL open day is being held at Mark College in Highbridge for parents who have children with dyslexia.

The event is taking place on April 29 and is aimed at people aged 10 to 19, plus their parents.

The residential school will host tours, and those involved will be able to meet the teaching team, see what is on offer, and visit the boarding facilities with deputy head of care, Sarah Curl.

The school principal, vice principal and head teacher Graham Scott, will also be taking questions and giving an insight into specific learning difficulties including dyspraxia and dyscalculia.

Miss Adams said: "We feel that Mark College is a very special place.

"It really does have it all.

"I’m proud to work here and parents will be assured of a warm welcome on Friday, however long they have to spare with us.

"The vibrancy of the school, its total commitment to the children and the dedication of staff make Mark College stand out in my mind as a school which just offers so much. "As a parent or carer for a child with, say, dyslexia, you want to provide the best possible support for them, and we can provide it."

As well as teaching facilities, the school has three residential houses managed by a team of care staff who offer activities.

Former students are now moving on to careers that include a film director, stockbroker, architect, landscape gardener, astro-physics engineer, teacher, computer systems engineer, farmer, marine biologist, cart and ceramic designer, TV cameraman, web designer and business entrepreneur.

Parents can book through the school to attend the open day and there are three time slots available - 10am, 2pm and 4pm.

Each slot will last around two hours, but busy parents will be allowed to dip in and out.
