A BURNHAM-ON-SEA resident is taking on a 106km trek of the Isle of Wight coastal path over the course of two days.

Anthony Barkle, 60, who is also an East Brent First School governor trekking as part of the ultra challenge series for charity on April 30 and May 1.

Anthony decided to do the challenge to mark his 60th birthday which was in April, and is using his experience to raise vital funds for CLIC Sargent.

The charity is close to his heart as his granddaughter, Abi Barkle, aged 3, was diagnosed with chronic myeloid Leukaemia, which is very rare in children.

Anthony said: "She was diagnosed aged two last September and CLIC Sargent have supported my son Ryan, his wife Vicky and their daughters Abi and Daisy.

"I will be doing the challenge with my sons, Ryan and Matthew Barkle.

"We hope to raise £5,000."

The group have been training since January and Matthew has lost a staggering five stone in the process.
