FOLLOWING a flood of entries, the winners in a poetry competition run by a Burnham-on-Sea opticians have been announced as Jacqueline Cooper and Scarlett Puddy.
Specsavers on the High Street launched the competition to coincide with World Poetry Day and asked creative locals for poems no longer than 250 words based around the theme of eyes and sight.
Jacqueline Cooper was chosen as the winner in the adult category and was presented with a voucher for £200 to spend in store for her humorous poem about the realisation she needed glasses.
Scarlett Puddy, 11, was the winner in the children’s category, receiving a selection of chocolate treats. Her poem was an observational take on what goes on in Burnham which went down very well with the team.
Rama Venkat, store director at Specsavers in Burnham, said: "We really enjoyed reading them all and it was a tough choice to pick the winners but we felt Jacqueline and Scarlett’s entries really stood out."
