TWO Burnham-on-Sea traders have been honoured by winning a local award.

Robert Hawker and Louise Perrin scooped prizes in the Local Hero awards 2015, run by the Burnham on Sea Food and Drink Festival.

Robert Hawker picked up his honour for his Robert Hawker Venison, and Louise Perrin won her award for Legglands Orchards.

Robert said: "Thank you for this award it's so unexpected.

"It's humbling to receive this award as there are so many other great and worthy producers that attend the excellent food festivals- it's a brilliant showcase to let your produce shine.

"This award means a lot to Amanda and I and my family.

"It represents the early mornings and late nights working at producing the best local produce we can."

Legglands Orchard has won the award two years running.

Louise said: "We are beyond thrilled to be given the Local Food Heroes award for the second year running.

"We’re a husband and wife micro-business and this recognition inspires us to continue producing the best Somerset artisan preserves.

"There is an amazing buzz at the Burnham on Sea Food and Drink Festival and we love being part of it.

"Thank you to all the visitors who give us such wonderful feedback, and of course to Bev and Sarah for organising such a great event.

"We’re in the Princess Theatre."

Festival director, Beverley Milner Simonds, said: "We created these awards to celebrate the traders who we feel have backed the festival, a drive for their businesses and deserve some public recognition for their hard work and commitment."

Fellow director, Sarah Milner Simonds, said: "We are looking forward to welcoming these traders and 102 others to the festival on May 28 - we hope you agree that we have brought the best of Somerset into the town for the day.

"Legglands Orchards have unparalleled provenance and attention to detail to create a great range of Somerset products.

"Robert Hawler Venison shows a commitment to producing the highest quality meat & products rooted in the local terroir with impeccable welfare standards."

The pair will be presented with their awards at 11am at the festival.
