TWO women have been rushed to hospital following a car crash near East Brent.

The incident took place around 5pm on the A38 Bristol Road, causing severe traffic disruption.

Firefighters from Burnham-on-Sea rushed to the scene on the junction of the A370 with the East Brent Roundabout.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "Shortly after arriving and assessing the scene, crews confirmed that whilst two people were still within the vehicle, they were medically, not physically trapped but they would still required extrication.

"After liaising with on scene paramedics and stabilising the vehicle, crews released two female casualties, using hydraulic cutting equipment to remove one of the doors for better access.

"Once released both casualties were left in the hands of paramedics, being assessed, with a view to being conveyed to hospital via two road ambulances."

Duty of care was left with the Police.
