THERE was a good turnout for a Dementia Awareness Week event in Burnham-on-Sea.

The event took place on Wednesday, May 18 at the Princess Hall in Burnham with a number of stalls on show from local groups including the Cinnamon Trust and Lions club.

Dementia champion Myra Cox gave an interesting and enlightening talk highlighting the positives, with the message that you can live well with Dementia in which she emphasised a number of different activities available.

The Princess Hall and Theatre is working to promote the hall as being Dementia friendly.

"We can all put understanding into action," Myra said. "No action is too small. Dementia can alter people's perception of their surroundings."

"A black mat can look like a hole or shiny blue flooring can look like water. Surrounding door frames should be a different colour to make the door easily recognisable. These are only small changes but they can make a big difference."

Myra is co-organising a Family History event at Bridgwater Library next month and will help people with scrapbooking their research.

The next one is planned for Friday, June 17. For more information contact Myra on 01278 458373 or email coxmyra20032000@yahoo.co.uk.
