JOYRIDERS who ‘narrowly missed a member of the public’ on Brean beach last night crashed a car into a warden’s truck, before fleeing the scene and leaving the car behind.

The four joyriders were said to have been ‘racing around’ on the beach in a Peugeot 207 at about 7pm last night, before a warden confronted them.

The Peugeot then sped off and hit the beach warden’s vehicle, causing a lot of damage to the rear end of the vehicle.

Davivd Furber, head beach warden, said: “The driver of the Peugeot 207 was racing around the beach like an idiot.

“A warden went to stop him, but then he sped off, and narrowly missed a member of the public.

“They hit one of our trucks, and it was quite a heavy impact, the whole towing mechanism has been bent out of place.

The warden said that the car the four men escaped in was traced to a Bristol address, and police are currently investigating the incident.

A police statement read: “We were called to an incident at Brean beach at just after 7pm yesterday, where a car being driven by a beach warden had been struck by another car.

“The driver and occupants of the second car then ran off, and enquiries are still ongoing.”

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact the police on 101.
