A BURNHAM-ON-SEA café has been named the Best Café in Somerset in the prestigious Muddy Stilettos awards.

Calm, an independent organic coffee bar on High Street that aims to promote healthy food, wellbeing and feeling good, beat off heavyweight coffee competition from across Somerset.

Owner Tiffany Louise Lin said she was ‘shocked’ to receive the award, and thanked all the Burnham residents who voted.

She said: “I would just like to say thank you to all the residents and locals who came out in force.

“I have even been stopped in the street by people telling me that they have voted for us, it’s been brilliant.

“We found out about the award at about 7.30pm last night, and I was so shocked.

“We have only been open 10 months, so to receive this award is a wonderful achievement.”

Customers have travelled from far and wide to visit the coffee bar, which features a reading room with library, laptop charging points and USB docking stations.

The shop holds yoga and pilates classes upstairs, which helps promote a healthy wellbeing, and it also caters for many dietary requirements such as vegetarians and vegans.

Having been recognised by the Sustainable Restaurant Association, the shop aims to be as environmentally friendly as possible by using reusable cups and LED lights.

They will pick up the prestigious award on Friday in Taunton, and Ms Lin said: “I’m sending some of my staff to collect the award, because they have been with me from the start and it’s been a tough road this last 10 months.

“I am hoping it will be great publicity for the town and hopefully it will help to attract tourists to Burnham-On-Sea.

“For the future, I am just looking to build steady foundations, make sure we have a solid grounding, and to continue our good work so far.
