PLANS for the resurfacing of the B3139 Mark Causeway will get underway shortly after Wessex Water’s installation of a new sewer under the road finished today.

The conclusion of the sewer comes a month earlier than planned and allows Somerset County Council to confirm its own plans to resurface now the excavating is complete.

Resurfacing will start on Monday August 1 and is expected to take four weeks to complete.

Cllr David Fothergill, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “It is great news that Wessex Water has finished this major scheme early and I’m pleased we can now finish the job by resurfacing the road.

“We appreciate it is frustrating that we have to return at a later date, but we believe it will be far less disruptive, particularly for school transport, if the work takes place as originally planned in August.

“The end is in sight, but we appreciate that this is further inconvenience so I’d like to thank the local community for their continued patience and understanding.”

The resurfacing will cover the stretch of road from the junction of Pillmore Lane to the junction of Yarrow Road, and will require a road closure, but this will be phased in order to minimise the impact on local traffic.

It is hoped the road will be open to traffic at the weekends.
