AN 80-year-old man had to receive treatment after a chip pan fire broke out near Burnham last night.

Two fire engines from Burnham and Bridgwater were called to the incident shortly before 10.30pm in Berrow Road, Berrow.

On arrival, fire crews confirmed the chip pan was on fire and got to work with two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one safety jet to extinguish the fire.

Crews administered oxygen to an 80 year old male who was suffering from smoke inhalation.

The room suffered 20 percent fire damage and 70 smoke damage. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
