A HIGHBRIDGE boxer is preparing to take on the fight for the English title.

Bobby Jones, who won the Southern area champion title in October 2015, will compete in the TFC championships on October 1.

The English title is one of Somerset's biggest fight shows, known as Lock & Load, hosted by Faisel Ghazghazi.

Bobby, who is originally from London, started boxing three years ago and currently trains with Hardknock Promotions, with whom he has been with for about a year and a half.

Since his last win, the former King Alfred pupil has started running his own classes for men, women and children in Highbridge and Weston-super-Mare's Swet FA.

His wife, Josie, said: "Coaching is something Bobby feels equally passionate about.

"The opportunity to fight for the English title has come up as Bobby now has had a total of nine semi professional fights undefeated.

"Whilst working full time as a local Burnham-on-Sea window fitter at Beach View Glass, and running the boxing clubs, Bobby has been training hard for his up and coming fight and is determined to walk away victorious."

Bobby said: "I am overwhelmed by all the amazing support I receive locally for every fight- it makes all the hours of intense training totally worth it.

"It's a tough game to be in whilst having a young family at home, but it's always been a dream of mine and my wife is so supportive of that.

"It's two months until fight night and I can't wait to see you all there.

"Let's bring that belt home to Highbridge."
