THERE were severe delays on the M5 in both directions throughout the weekend with a huge volume of summer holiday traffic.

Saturday saw major congestion from junction 20 at Clevedon to junction 26 for Wellington both northbound and southbound.

On Sunday, there was stationary traffic and long delays northbound across the same stretch due to a series of crashes.

A three car crash near junction 22 for Burnham-on-Sea northbound held up motorists for more than an hour, with stop start traffic back to junction 25 at Taunton.

There was also several broken down vehicles near junction 23 for Bridgwater which caused delays.

A Volkswagen camper van caught fire and burnt out near to junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare southbound around 6pm.
