A CARE charity store got into the spirit of the Wild West this month as they hosted a fundraising week.

The Weston Hospicecare shop in Burnham-on-Sea put on a range of wild west themed activities in and around the the Brean and Burnham area from September 28 to October 9 in a bid to raise money and encourage residents to become more aware of the services that the hospice provides.

The store started preparing for the week of fundraising nearly a year ago and said that their most recent event was a huge success with lots of people coming into the store dressed as cowboys and cowgirls to support the charity.

The service provides palliative care for people living with a life-limiting illness in Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding areas including Highbridge and Burnham.

Weston Hospicecare retail manager Lisa Johns said: "We’ve actually started getting ready for next year’s event today.

"Anything that comes in between now and next year that makes us think, ‘Oh, that’ll be great for the Wild West week’ will be set aside."

One shop volunteer said: "It was different, so it’s nice to have a change from the normal things we sell every day."

Weston Hospicecare, Burnham on Sea shop manager, Sue Picken said: "What a great atmosphere!

"We’ve had lots in our shop to entice the visiting cowboys and ladies; it's always a pleasure to see them all in their finery."

The event helped the shop to raise more money for the hospice which costs £3.5 million each year to run.
