SEDGEMOOR District Council is urging businesses in the area to learn more about the opportunities for exporting by attending a free half-day business conference.

The event, on November 3 is being hosted by the council at Bridgwater's McMillan Theatre will focus on the topic of exporting.

Among the speakers who will share their knowledge and experience with delegates are Hilary Charman, International Trade Adviser from Department of International Trade; Julie Ounsworth, International Director at Santander and the South West's Regional Manager for China Britain Business Council Antoaneta Becker.

James Gore from Bristol Airport will be talking about the international connectivity available on Sedgemoor's doorstep and Managing Director of NuScale Power, Thomas Mundy, will share his company's experience in the nuclear industry.

The local businesses' perspective will be offered by Andrew Brownlow, CEO of Bridgwater-based BFF Technical Fabrics, by Stephen Jones, Managing Director of Wellington-based Somerdale Cheese and by Guy Atkins, Managing Director of Highbridge Firm Jo Bird.

Delegates will also be brought up to date with all that is happening at Hinkley Point C now that the project is fully underway and will be looking at the opportunity it brings to large and small businesses to join the supply chain.

A spokesperson for Sedgemoor District Council said there were still seats left for the conference which was a chance for companies already exporting to share experiences and for those thinking of taking the plunge to get expert advice.

"The Government and Sedgemoor are really keen to see more of our small and medium size businesses, which employ the vast majority of people, play a greater role in exporting and we are very fortunate to have an army of experts ready to help.

"If any business is even toying with the idea of sending products overseas, we would encourage them to come along on November 3 to see what those who are doing it very successfully here in Sedgemoor can tell them."
