VITAL repairs on the A371 Axbridge Bypass are due to take place next week.
Somerset County Council will be strengthening and resurfacing the A371 where it meets the A38, using high skid resistance material to improve safety on the approach to the junction.

This work has been co-ordinated to take place before Bristol Water starts its £27m Southern Resilience Scheme, a major project to lay a new water main in the Axbridge area which will require traffic lights and road closures at various stages over the next few months.

Work on the junction repairs starts on Monday, November 21 and will require a road closure from 7am to 7pm to safely carry out the work. It is hoped the work can be completed in two days.

Cllr David Fothergill, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Over the next few months Bristol Water will be doing a lot of work in this area and we’ll see increased traffic at this junction, so I’m pleased we’ve been able to get in and improve the road surface in advance.

“We appreciate the road closure will cause some inconvenience but we’ll be working hard to complete the repairs in two days if we can.”
