A HIGHBRIDGE care home received high praise this week as it was rated 'good' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after an unannounced inspection.

The Lodge in Highbridge has been rated as “good” overall  in all assessment areas after an unexpected visit from the CQC.

In the report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), inspectors said: “Staff treated people with kindness and respect.

"Staff care about people’s wellbeing and went out of their way to make people feel happy and offer them freedom of choice”.

The Lodge is managed by Cragemoor and provides support for people with autism, mental health problems and learning disabilties.

A person supported by The Lodge told inspectors the home is “very nice”.

Another resident said:“I like all the staff. It’s good here, I like it.”

A resident’s relative said: “I could never have imagined somewhere so perfect for them as The Lodge.”

Another relative said:“There is always a very cohesive, calm, supportive and friendly atmosphere.”

Residents at the home are supported to take part in their own hobbies and activities.

Staff have made a concious effort to organise trips for residents including taking them to go bowling, swimming, to the cinema and to meet friends.

Some residents are supported to do voluntary work with the RSPCA and others are encouraged to attend college.

CQC inspectors praised how residents are encouraged to give feedback including during monthly 'Your Voice' meetings.

A resident recently requested to go on a visit to Cadbury World during one of these meetings and staff quickly arranged this.

Emma Wood, Registered Manager at The Lodge, said:“We are all absolutely delighted.

"It is lovely to hear that the residents enjoy living at The Lodge and to see the staff’s passion, care and commitment reflected by CQC.

"Our team will continue to do our utmost to support the residents to achieve great things.”

Sarah Hughes, CEO of Craegmoor said: “This is an excellent home with a warm and friendly atmosphere.

"It is always a great place to visit.

"I am sure that The Lodge will continue to go from strength to strength.”
