NINE cats have been dumped in freezing weather conditions on a street in Yeovil.

The cats were discovered by a passer-by in Fielding Road at around 6am on Friday (January 13) who contacted the RSPCA with concerns for the animals welfare.

The animal welfare charity is appealing for information after the chilling discovery.

The cats have been taken to the RSPCA centre at West Hatch in Taunton where they are currently being cared for by staff and volunteers.

RSPCA inspector Marie Griffiths said: “Thankfully the cats were found by a member of the public, who informed us straightaway.

"They were deliberately abandoned on a freezing cold morning without any consideration for their welfare.

"Unfortunately they are not microchipped, so it is very difficult to know where they have come from.

"We are desperately hoping someone from the local community will be able to help us identify these lovely cats and the person who heartlessly discarded them.

"We urge anyone with any information as to where he came from to contact us on 0300 123 8018.

Anyone with any information about how the cats came left in a material cat carrier in the street should call the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
