A CONCERNED Highbridge resident said more needs to be done to crack down on bad parking in the town.

The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous says the poor parking on a residential road just to the right of Church Street, near Wade House is posing a danger to the residents who live there.

"These parking problems have been going on for a number of years, people from a block of flats on the street have been told not to park on the road but yet it is still happening.

"I have contacted the council about this on a number of occasions but they didn't want to know and told me to contact the company who owns the flats.

"The company sent out a letter last year to residents on the street telling the people who live in the flats not to park on the road yet it is still happening.

"Elderly people live down the street and it is difficult for them to get in and out of the street."

The worried resident said they think tenants in the flats are deliberately parking on the road and expressed their concerns about the lack of access down the street for emergency vehicles.

"I have seen a number of near miss accidents on the road over the last few years since the cars have been parked there.

"A parked car nearly caused an accident down the road as a cyclist could not see it around the corner when it was dark just a week ago.

"The parking problems have become more prevalent on the road recently but have been going on for the last few years.

"On more than one occasion emergency vehicles have struggled to get down the road to help some of the elderly residents and its just not good enough.

"Its dangerous for people who use the road and I hope something can be done."

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: "We have had no reports of problems with access in or around Church Street.

"Somerset County Council does encourage people to be mindful when parking their vehicles to ensure that there is adequate access for emergency vehicles to pass through safely."
