A BURNHAM-on-Sea charity is celebrating its second anniversary after a 'hard' two years.

The charity, In Charley's Memory was set up by Jo Clements in 2015 after her son Charley took his own life in September 2014 and aims to help young people with mental health problems have a better quality of life.

Dawn Carey from In Charley's Memory said: "We are celebrating our second anniversary and we have come such a long way in the time we have been open, it has been hard but worth it.

"At In Charley's Memory we help approximately 30 young people a week and let them know that they have someone to talk to.

"We have been into around ten schools in the last year and we now have 16 young ambassadors from across Somerset who we helped train and get a registered qualification who can go out and speak to young people."

Since its launch in 2015 the charity has been growing from strength to strength and now has its own premises at Manor House in Burnham-on-Sea and three full time staff.

The charity also has its own online shop and now offers a variety of mental health workshops on topics including stress management and cognitive behavioural therapy to people of all ages.

Mrs Carey added: "The main message we would like to give out to young people is to let them know they are not alone.

"The hardest step for anyone suffering from a mental health problem is to speak to someone and not suffer through it alone.

"We are here to help anyone wanting to take that step.

"We will have been here for two years on March 6 and it is amazing to see how far we have come.

"In the last two years the amount of support we have had from our local community and through volunteers and donations has been amazing, we would not be where we are without their support."

Mrs Carey said the charity will be hosting the third annual Walking into Darkness walk on June 24 which encourages people to show their support to families and individuals suffering from mental health problems.

"This cause is very close to our heart and being allowed to host the walk is an honour.

"We hope to see as many people there as possible who want to show their support."
