THE Burnham Harriers took a different route to their usual weekly routine by adding in some vital life skills training.
The group meet every Tuesday for a run, but last week, April 4, they added CPR and defibrillator training at the Bay Club after their 6k run.
Debra, a nurse from Weston Hospital, gave the training to 11 runners, with Dr Stuart Anderson assisting with a supply of extra CPR dummies and a defibrillator.
Anyone who suffers from a heart attack stands an 80 per cent better chance of survival without brain damage if they are given CPR or their heart is restarted within the first three minutes of the emergency happening.
Last year the Harriers, park runners, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and Sed- gemoor District Council raised funds for the defibrillator at Apex Park in Highbridge.
The group also organises the popular APEX Park Parkrun event every Saturday morning at 9am.
So far they have clocked up 95 runs.
