A BURNHAM-on-Sea nurse said she is 'excited' to take part in a charity fundraiser to raise money for a hospice.

Sue Caddy, a community nurse specialist for Weston Hospicecare is getting ready to take part in Weston Hospicecare's first Bubble Rush fundraising event in Apex Park on August 5.

The care provider offers at home care and support to people who need palliative care.

Mrs Caddy, said: "I’m looking forward to doing some fundraising and taking part in the Bubble Rush with the rest of my community team colleagues.

"In our line of work, it’s so important for us to have that support network with one another.

"We’re all signing up to take part together, and it’s great to have a fun event where we can have a good laugh together whilst supporting the hospice."

Mrs Caddy joined the hospice in 2016 and visits and coordinates care for between 40 and 50 patients a week in Burnham, Highbridge and Berrow.

She will be competing in the family friendly event along with some other members of staff from the hospice which will see participants running their way through a sea of foamy bubbles.

Mrs Caddy, added: "The care and support that we offer in the Burnham-on-Sea area is important.

"We’re here to join up all of the services that are available to people.

" But it’s important to note that we don’t just support the patient.

"We’re here to help the family and their friends as well.

"We’re keen to make sure that more people know about the care we provide in the Burnham area and we hope the Bubble Rush will help raise awareness of the fact that we support people in and around Burnham too."

The hospice costs £3.5 million a year to run, and only 21% of that is funded by the NHS.

The service provides end of life care to its patients for free and relies on fundraising efforts from residents in the local community and profits from its charity shops to stay a float.

Organisers of the Bubble Rush fundraising event said there are a limited number of early bird places left to book.
