ST GEORGE’S Day celebrations were in full swing in Burnham-on-Sea as residents took the streets to watch a parade.

The parade, on Sunday, April 23, was lead by Cllr Michael Clarke, mayor of Burnham-on-Sea and his wife and mayoress, Cllr Maria Clarke and started from outside Material Needs, in North Street.

The mayor and mayoress were closely followed through the High Street by a group of young boys dressed as knights holding up a dragon and a group of young girls from Dance Fit in Burnham who were dancing with red and blue pom poms.

Crowds of flag-waving spectators turned out to see the parade and there were patriotic scenes in the town as more than 30 people joined the procession in a variety of colourful costumes to live music.

Volunteers from Hands of Change, dancers from Dance Fit and the Burnham Events Social Team organised the event.
