BURNHAM-on-Sea Coastguard were called to Brean Beach after reports that a suitcase had been abandoned on sand dunes on the beach.

The team were called shortly after 7.30pm on June 20 after a beach warden discovered the case while patrolling the beach.

A spokesman for Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard said: "Every once in a while we find ourselves called to either items of clothing with no owner, or personal possessions that wouldn't be left behind without a worrying reason.

"We had a quick scout round but there was no owner, he notified our ops room in Milford Haven and they tasked us to investigate this mystery further.

"As we arrived on scene the beach warden was speaking to the possible owner of the case.

"We questioned the man about what he was doing in the dunes with the case and he explained he was leaving a local job and heading off to a new job out of the area.

"After chatting to him and his former employers we decided he was the owner of the suitcase and were happy that no other action was required.

"It was a good find by the beach warden and in the past things like this have sparked quite large searches.

"Happily on this occasion we were able to wrap up the incident in quick time and head home enjoying the rest of the sunny evening."

If you spot anyone in difficulty call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
