A NEW cricket ground, complete with pavilion, could be built in Mark after plans were unveiled.

Mark Cricket Club has submitted plans to Sedgemoor District Council to build a new cricket ground and pavilion on land to the back of Mark Church of England Primary School, in The Causeway.

If approved, the new cricket ground will be used by players at the club, as well as students at the school.

As part of the plan, a dropoff parking area will also be built to alleviate ongoing traffic problems at the school.

A spokesman for Mark Cricket Club said: “We are really excited about this project and hope it gets approved.

“The new cricket ground will give residents in Mark the chance to continue the village’s long established cricket team, which is a huge part of the community.

“The proposal to relocate the village cricket club in isolation holds significant community benefits in our view.

“The proposals we have set out mean we will be working closely with Mark Primary School, they have been having some ongoing traffic problems for quite some time.

“Parents have struggled for some time to pick up and drop off their children without getting stuck in traffic.

“The new pick up and drop off point we hope will alleviate this problem.

“The new development will be located adjacent to the school which means students at the primary school will be able to enjoy and use the cricket ground’s facilities.

“The proposal seeks to relocate the cricket ground so it can be used by the community.

“A similar proposal was granted permission in 2013 and we hope it will be considered by the council.”

Comments are welcome on the application until September 5, after which they will be considered by Sedgemoor District Council.
