A BOISTEROUS border terrier has been dubbed as one of Britain friendliest dogs after winning a place on a calendar in a national competition.

Vanessa Holbrow from Burnham-on-Sea entered her dog, 'Sir Jack Spratticus', into Dog Friendly's 2018 calendar competition earlier this year and said she was 'shellshocked' when she discovered the border terrier had won a place on the calendar.

"I shed a tear when I found out that Jack was going to appear on the calendar, I never thought in a million years that we would win,"she said.

The proud dog owner entered Jack in the Dog Friendly Face of the Year competition earlier this year and was thrilled when she checked the Dog Friendly website and discovered that Jack had won a spot on the 2018 calendar.

For winning, Jack has secured a spot on the 2018 Dog Friendly calendar and has won a £250 holiday voucher and a professional photoshoot.

Vanessa said she was called on September 9 by a representative from Dog Friendly and was told that Jack had been shortlisted to be on the calendar.

"When I got the call I was so surprised, I enter a few photo competitions every year and I wasn't expecting to hear anything back," she said.

"The representative asked me a few questions about Jack and told me to look out for the results.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked on the website and found that Jack had won, I'm so proud of him."

Vanessa said she is looking forward to using the holiday vouchers as she has never been away and wants to enjoy a holiday with Jack.

"I unfortunately don't have any family left in the UK and suffer with a variety of illnesses which have led to me being in and out of hospital for long periods," she said.

"Jack is so understanding and caring and we have such a close relationship that I would love for us to go away.

"I am currently training Jack so he can be an assistance dog for me and as he is an older dog he has to work twice as hard.

"I am so grateful to have Jack in my life, he is a fantastic partner."
