A YOUNG woman from Highbridge has been on a trip of a lifetime with Girlguiding.

Olivia Cox, 17, flew to Canada for two weeks as part of a group from Girlguiding South West and spent time travelling around the country and participating in different activities along the way.

The enthusiastic teenager joined more than 2,000 girl guides from around the world at a camp in her first week where she went mountain biking and hiking.

Olivia said she really enjoyed her Girlguiding adventure and said she .

“It is so difficult to pick a particular highlight but for me it has to be when we made it to the top of a mountain after mountain biking for several hours over incredibly difficult terrain,” she said.

On the second week of her trip, Olivia travelled around the country, visiting iconic cities including Prince George, Jasper and Vancouver and took part in a range of activities like taking trips on cable cars up the mountains.

“As a novice, completing miles of steep rocky muddy trails really knocked it out of me but making it to the end really gave me a feeling of achievement,” Olivia said.

“Having a snowball fight at the top, after the hike, brought home how high up we were and the fact that we’d all made it together.”

Before embarking on the trip, Olivia raised some funds by taking part in car boot sales across the county.

The trip to Canada was organised as part of Girlguiding South West’s International Opportunities programme (INTOPS) which offers international adventures to young women across the region.
