BURNHAM-ON-SEA MP James Heappey made a special appearance to celebrate St Andrew’s Church of England Junior School’s newly elected ministers.

The MP visited the school on October 13 when it held its very own elections.

Students voted for ministers to represent them in each of their classes as part of Democracy Week.

Before all the winners were announced, Mr Heappey told the students what his responsibilities are as MP for Burnham-on-Sea.

Mr Heappey then acted as returning officer and announced the election results, which were met with great excitement from the school.

He then congratulated the winners on their new roles.

Mr Heappey said: “I think it is really important the children learn about democracy and this is the perfect way to do it.

“I congratulate all those who were elected.

“I wanted to make sure every one of them knew that by running for election, they have done a great thing and have already made a difference.

“I hope they enjoy their year in office for their class.
