BURNHAM-on-Sea's annual Christmas lights switch on is happening today.

The lights will be switched on at 6.10pm by BBC Points West presenter, David Garmston on Victoria Street.

The event, in Victoria Street, will be preceded by an afternoon of live entertainment and family attractions from 1.30pm, organised by Burnham Chamber of Trade & Commerce.

There will be festive performances on stage from local choirs, dance groups and performers - and Father Christmas will make a special visit, touring around the town centre.

There will also be festive stalls, displays and fair attractions throughout the afternoon.

The event will also see the return of Burnham's BOS Factor festive talent competition when local people can perform on the stage to win a £100 prize.

The Christmas lights will be switched on at 6pm by the BBC's David Garmston alongside local dignitaries.

David has worked on west country TV for over two decades and is the male anchor on the TV show alongside Alex Lovell.

A spokesman for Burnham-on-Sea Chamber of Trade, said: "It promises to be a superb event to mark the official start of Burnham's Christmas season.

"We're delighted to have David lined up to light up the town centre and support our local businesses."
