STAFF at The Burnham Nursing and Care Home are celebrating after they received a 'good' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The care home on Oxford Street, Burnham-on-Sea was praised by inspectors after a 'requires improvement' rating following an inspection in August 2016.

Inspectors visited the home on December 5, 2017 and in their report, published on January 31, they rated the centre as 'good' in all five areas.

Raji Sunhil, home manager at The Burnham Nursing and Care Home, said she is 'very proud' of staff at the care home and praised them for their hard work.

“I am very proud of the team here at The Burnham Nursing & Care Home, they have all worked incredibly hard to make this a caring and lovely home for our residents," the home manager said.

"We are very pleased to have this positive outcome from our latest CQC inspection and we are looking forward to the future in the community and town of Burnham-on-Sea.”

The report, which is available on the CQC website, highlighted that staff were kind, caring and compassionate and supported people's dignity and independence.

It stated: "At the last inspection we found people were not always safe.

"Risks to people were not well managed and there were times when there were not enough staff to keep people safe.

"Some staff did not know how to report concerns to the local authority if they had concerns about a person's safety.

"At this inspection we found there had been a lot of progress in ensuring people were safe.

"Systems were in place to identify and reduce the risks to people living in the home.

"People's care plans included detailed and informative risk assessments."

The care home which is home to up to 73 residents, offers nursing, residential and dementia care and is run by Country Court Care.

Alykhan Kachra, managing director of Country Court Care, said he was 'delighted' with the 'good' rating.

“We are delighted with the report findings,” Mr Kachra said.

“Home Manager Raji Sunil and her staff team here at The Burnham have worked incredibly hard over the past months.

"Their determination to provide the very best care for our residents at The Burnham Nursing & Care Home is reflected in the positive comments in the report”.

The report included testimonials from residents and their families who commended the quality of care and said staff knew people well and treated them as individuals.

One resident, said: "They are kind and caring.

"I am very happy.

"You never really want to move into care but I have been pleasantly surprised how easy they made it for me."
