A RUNNER alerted the coastguard after she spotted a mysterious object floating in the sea in Burnham-on-Sea.
Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard were called at 9.18am today (March 6) to St Andrews Church on Victoria Street to investigate.
The crew met with the lady who reported it and checked the object with their binoculars.
After looking at it crews discovered it was nothing more than an inanimate object and stood down their search.
They reported their findings to the Coastguard Operations Centre in Milford Haven and returned to the station.
A spokesman for Burnham Coastguard, said: "The lady was worried that she had wasted our time by calling, but we assured her that it was 100 per cent the right thing to do.especially in light of recent events.
"If you spot anything along the coast that may need investigating, call 999 and ask for the Coastguards.
"It is better to get something checked and be safe."
