A CARE home in Burnham-on-Sea has been given a new name after receiving a 'good' rating from the Care Quality Commission.

The Burnham Nursing and Care Home has been renamed Priory Court Care & Nursing Home which bosses say marks a new chapter for the Oxford Street care home, which can house up to 71 residents.

The name, Priory Court, ensures the links to Burnham are retained and the former use of the buildings as a convent are acknowledged.

Raji Sunil, home manager at Priory Court Care & Nursing Home, said: "We wanted to mark this new chapter for our care and nursing home with a new name.

“We’ve made many positive changes here; from a complete refurbishment of the top floor and communal areas, new staff and management team and now our overall ‘Good’ CQC report.

"We felt that the time was right to announce a change of name”.

Staff at the nursing home are currently working towards their Gold Standard's Framework accreditation in end of life care.

The framework ensures nurses and carers, as well as the entire staff teams offer high standards of care and support to allow residents and families to make decisions on how they wish to be cared for at the end of their lives.

The accreditation takes around two years to complete and is independently assessed against the standard of best practice.
