A WORRIED father has been reunited with his daughter after she went missing in Berrow.

On Monday (May 8) members of Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard's team ventured out on a safety and local knowledge patrol along Berrow Beach when they were approached by a lady who had found a young girl wandering around, alone and lost.

One of the team stayed with the lost girl while the rest got the rescue truck and had a quick drive down the beach to see if they could see any concerned parents.

Luckily they spotted a man who was looking worried and was waving them down to ask if they had seen his daughter.

"He had taken a picture of her that morning when they arrived which was a great help in instantly identifying that it was the same child," a Coastguard spokesman said.

"We quickly reunited all relieved family members who were very thankful.

"It is easy for a child to become lost and disorientated on the beach, especially on ones this busy, it was a recurring theme all across the country today with the majority of call outs being for lost children."

After the pair had been reunited the team continued their patrol along the beach and onto Brean Down.

On their travels they met with people who needed towing and stopped to see if the beach wardens needed help with an older person who had spent too long in the sun without drinking.

A spokesman for the Coastguard said: "Overall it has been a very quiet and safe Bank Holiday on our local beaches, we hope this is a sign that our message is starting to have an impact on safety in the area.

"But no matter what, we will always be on call to help those who need it, when they need it.

"Keep up the good work out there, together we can continue to make our beaches safer."

If you see anyone in any difficulty or danger along the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
