HAVING had no post on Good Friday, Liz Monday was expecting a visit from the postman - but the Burnham resident was astonished to see a large bundle of letters with six different addresses stuffed through her letterbox.
The shock Royal Mail delivery on Saturday, March 22, saw 21 items with different destinations arrive on her doorstep and was one of two similar incidences on the same day to be reported to the Weekly News.
Liz Monday, who did not want to give her address for fear of reprisals, said: "When the Saturday morning delivery came through the door I thought blimey I know we didn't get any post on Friday but we're not expecting this - there were 21 letters to six address.
"When I rang Royal Mail they told me to just put them back in the post box."
The conscientious resident then went and delivered messages to the houses affected by the blunder and found she was not the only one involved the right Royal mix-up.
Tracey Edwards, from Spaxton Close in Burnham, also received an unwanted bundle of post - none of it hers.
She said: "We had a wad, an inch-and-a-half-thick with an elastic band round it. It wasn't addressed to anyone with our house number or even in the same road.
"We were absolutely disgusted there you have bank details and everything in the post and now ours has gone missing."
A spokesman from Royal Mail told the Weekly News: "We apologise to any customers who experienced misdeliveries on Saturday. This is clearly below the standard of delivery expected of our staff.
"The person delivering to these addresses that day was a temporary worker who we are no longer using. The delivery office manager in Burnham will now monitor deliveries in the area to make sure this does not happen again."
