New youth centre launched at Princess Theatre New youth centre launched at Princess Theatre

AN EXCITING new youth theatre group was founded at Burnham’s Princess Theatre this week.

The Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge (BOSH) Youth Theatre welcomed around 30 keen guests to its launch party on Tuesday.

The new group aims to help people aged from eight to 18 build confidence and improve their drama techniques through voice projection and stage craft.

Organiser Jonathon Smith, 21, told the Weekly News: “We’ve been talking about the idea of a Youth Theatre group at the Princess for a while. There’s not really a group in Burnham which focuses on drama.

“I’ve been in a few plays at school and have helped with production at the theatre and Andy Pulleyn, the manager of the Princess, thought it would be nice to set up a group.

“I was helping with a Dreamescheme after school group, putting on a play called Pinafore Pirates, and a lot of the children from that have got involved.”

The group will be able to offer the Arts Award from Arts Council England, which all staff have been trained to teach and assess.

Anyone interested can email the group at princesstheatreandarts centre.co.uk. Annual membership is £20, which includes a hoodie.

The new term starts in October.
