A TEENAGE apprentice at a Highbridge firm is in the running for a top industry award.
Paul Lang, of Rogers Restorations Electrical, has been named the Summit Skills South West Apprentice of the Year after two days of intense competition at Bridgwater College’s Energy Skills Centre.
It involved competitors from the fields of plumbing, electrical installation and refrigeration firms from across the region.
Paul, 19, will now go on to compete in the WorldSkills UK Electrical Installations national competition at the NEC in Birmingham, in November, for the title of UK’s Best Apprentice.
He is also in line for a place representing the UK in the largest international vocational skills competition in the world, WorldSkills in Sao Paolo, in Brazil.
Paul said: “The encouragement to take pride in your work and the assistance that is provided on a daily basis has pushed me to take my work further than I would have expected.
“It’s an honour to receive these awards and it’s a great way to see how learning on the job can work for young people.”
Rogers Restorations has a pedigree of producing award winning apprentice.
Chris Young, now a fully qualified electrician for the firm, represented the UK at the WorldSkills event in London in 2011.
