A HIGHBRIDGE safety cabinet company has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise International Trade.

Jo Bird and Co received the award at its offices at Bason Bridge, Highbridge, in recognition of outstanding performance in export growth and contribution to overseas trade.

The presentation was made by Queen’s representative Lady Gass, Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, at an event hosted by company chairman Jo Bird and managing director Guy Atkins.

Special guests included Mayor of Burnham Cllr Martin Cox, Sedgemoor District Councillor Anne Fraser, Business West CEO Phil Smith and Charles Hill of South West Manufacturing Advisory Service.

Invited guests received a factory tour and saw bespoke glass reinforced plastic (GRP) products at various stages of manufacture.

The firm, formed in 1985, makes cabinets for the protection of fire and lifesaving equipment.
